Used in a wide variety of HVAC&R equipment, refrigerants originally contained substances such as hydrocarbons, ammonia, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).  They were used for their efficient, non-flammable and non-toxic benefits.

During the 1990s, CFCs and HCFCs began to be phased out for the rise of hybrid fibre coaxial (HFCs).  HFCs have zero ozone depletion potential, however contain the downside of significant global warming potential (GWP).  The international focus on global warming has now led to the development of low GWP refrigerants.

The HVAC&R industry are moving towards limiting or phasing out several refrigerants currently used in cooling and heating equipment.  This is due to global agreements that are in place to limit the release of substances contributing to global warming and ozone depletion.  The environmental criteria for future refrigerants includes zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), low global warming potential (GWP) and high efficiency.  

Higher GWP refrigerants such as R410A and R134a are already experiencing volume reductions.

How do we stack up?

Partnering with our European supplier Clint, we offer a complete range of high efficiency units with eco-friendly refrigerant.  

​The traditional R410A used with scroll compressors can now be replaced with the low GWP option R452B.  This eco-friendly refrigerant has a GWP of 676 which is a 65% lower impact on global warming. 

For screw and turbocor compressors R513A with a GWP of 573 has a 56% lower impact on global warming than R134a.

​Respect for the environment with a 65% lower impact on global warming than R410A.
